Joel Pohjanpalo and Jesse Jorosen’s Venezia defeated Cremonese to secure their place in Serie A next season.

The opening match between the teams ended in a 0-0 draw. Even a draw on Sunday would have promoted Venezia to Serie A, as the team sit above Cremonese in the Serie B standings.

Bohjanpalo and Joronen, in their second season at Venezia, were the absolute cornerstones of their team. Bojanpaolo continued his excellent scoring streak this season and was Serie B’s top scorer with 22 wins.

Venezia’s number one goalkeeper Joronen, like Bohjanpalo, played full minutes in the crucial promotion qualifier and made a total of 18 saves in the pair.

Founded in 1907, Venezia last played in Serie A in the 2021-2022 season, but the visit to the major league lasted only one season. Prior to this, the club was seen in Serie A in the early 2000s.

Ahead of Venezia, Parma and Como were promoted directly to Serie A this season. Third in the league table, Venezia needed to qualify for promotion, where they first defeated Palermo in a controlled fashion.

So far, five Finnish players have played in Italian Serie A in the 2020s: Joronen and Simon Scrap (Brescia), had a distinguished career in Italy Progress Hetemaj (Benevento), Niki Manpa (Venezia) as well Nicklaus is crazy (Bologna).
