Stubbs in Washington: We are a producer of security

President Alexander Stubb made his entrance before the press.

President Alexander Stubb appeared before reporters at the NATO summit in Washington and answered questions from journalists.

Foreign Minister Elena Valtonen (KOK) and Defense Minister Anti Häkkänen (KOK) sided with him.

Stubb began by saying it was a privilege to be at the summit celebrating 75 years of alliance.

NATO has doubled its leverage against Russia with Finland’s membership. According to Stubb, Finland has become a producer of defense in NATO, not a consumer of defense.

– We are witnessing the rebirth of NATO, says Stubb.

Largest cannon in Europe

Stubb praises the Finnish military and its presence. According to Stubb, Finland has the largest artillery in Europe.

Stubb had a message to send to the Kremlin.

– Ukraine will become a NATO country, Stubb said.

According to Stubb, Ukraine’s path toward NATO membership is irreversible.

– Stubb says the only message the Kremlin understands is power.

The Baltic Sea is a NATO lake

Stubb was asked if he feared the Baltic Sea could become Russia’s next target if Russian President Vladimir Putin is not stopped.

– We are not afraid of anything, we are ready for everything.

According to Stubb, the Nordic countries form a powerful entity militarily against which Russia does not make sense.

– The Baltic Sea is now a NATO lake.

Stubb was asked whether Finland would have been willing to extend an official membership invitation to Ukraine at the summit.

Stubb says that Finland is a young member state that acts in the mainstream when it comes to Ukraine’s membership. According to him, Ukraine will eventually become a NATO member.

– Not now, but at some point.

Stubb says he has never seen NATO or the EU as they are now.

Trump

Stubb was asked if Finland was concerned that Donald Trump might become the next president of the United States.

Stubb says he has met several US senators and ministers.

Their message is clear. Stubb says he is confident that support for Ukraine and NATO will continue regardless of who is elected as the next US president.

Stubb says he also met US President Joe Biden during the meeting.

Speaking to Stubb about his positive views on Finland, Biden talked about how strong Finland’s strong defense is.
