Finnish transport and communications company Traficom’s Cyber Security Center warns In his weekly review About Android malware designed to steal user’s banking credentials.
The scam starts with a text message in Finnish asking you to call the service number. Messages have been sent in the name of several companies.
The person who called the service number may be a target of fraud and is advised to take security measures over the phone. Needless to say, no other criminal activity was committed against the user, but the statement made over the phone is.
Do not install apps from outside the app stores
During the call, another text message appears instructing the caller to download an anti-virus application. According to reports made to the Cyber Security Center, the app is disguised as McAfee antivirus. However, the link in the message leads to a download site outside of the app stores.
If the user mistakenly installs “virus protection” as requested, criminals can access the phone’s messages, applications and online banking. It is also possible to steal money with the help of malware.
The Cybersecurity Center reminds that no trusted party asks to install applications from outside of application stores.

Do this if you have installed malware
According to the Cyber Security Center, the user who installed the malware should contact their bank immediately to minimize damage.
In addition, the phone should be reset to factory settings, or if this is not possible, contact the seller of the device.
There is also the risk of passwords falling into the wrong hands. The malware may have stolen passwords used by users to log into services after installing the malware.
The Cyber Security Center urges you to file a criminal complaint.
